FMI Recommits to Trade Events
WASHINGTON -- The Food Marketing Institute's board of directors on Saturday reaffirmed its commitment to the organization's role as the sole proprietor of FMI's Annual May Convention and Marketechnics Show. The announcement comes in the wake of reports that due to declining attendance in recent years, FMI would sell all or part of its exhibition business to a professional show management company.
According to FMI president and c.e.o. Tim Hammonds in a statement, "We are excited about the opportunity to continue to work with our retail and wholesale members, our exhibitors, and our co-location partners to maintain these two shows as signature events for the industry."
At presstime FMI wasn't available for comment.
In other FMI news, David Greaves, e.v.p. of Canton, Mass.-based Avitar, Inc., developer of the world's first on-site oral test for drugs-of-abuse, is presenting a case study at the organization's Risk, Insurance, & Safety Management Conference today from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Plaza San Antonio in San Antonio, Texas. The case study details the implementation of Avitar's on-site instant ORALScreen drug testing solution at Modesto, Calif.-based supermarket chain Save Mart, which operates 120 grocery stores in northern and central California.
Greaves' presentation explains how Save Mart's drug-testing program reduced employee turnover and played a key role in improving the employee pool and hiring practices. The presentation also provides statistics about drug use in the supermarket industry.
