FMI Names Regulatory Counsel
The Food Marketing Institute (FMI) has appointed Stephanie Kay Barnes its regulatory counsel. In her new role, Barnes will represent the trade organization and advocate on behalf of its members in the area of regulation; help FMI food retailers and wholesalers comply with regulations; and advise them on federal rules regarding food safety and other key issues.
"Stephanie's unique experience in food law and her background in environmental and consumer advocacy will help our members navigate and improve the morass of challenging federal regulations they face each day in their collective 40,000 food retail stores," noted Jennifer Hatcher, SVP of government and public affairs at Arlington, Va.-based FMI.
Food and Drug Law Institute Veteran
Barnes was previously senior manager, food portfolio and global programs at the Washington, D.C.-based Food and Drug Law Institute, where she led and advanced the institute's global initiative. She also spent several years as the institute's editor for Update magazine, a bimonthly publication featuring food and drug law news.
She additionally held support positions at the Environmental Working Group, the Environmental Protection Agency and the American Beverage Association's Office of the General Counsel, and is an active member of the State Bar of Virginia.
