Federal Court Ruling Protects Copyright of Consumer-printed Online Coupons

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - Coupons Inc., a leading U.S. provider of consumer-printed coupon marketing and technology solutions, has won what it calls a ground-breaking, permanent injunction against counterfeiting of its coupons.

The company won the permanent injunction and final judgment based on claims under federal and state laws, including the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, which addresses copyright protection of materials in digital form, such as materials distributed via the Internet. The ruling of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, one of the first of its kind, bars the defendant from further illegal activity in violation of Coupons Inc.'s legal rights.

"This important ruling validates our assertion that the unique features of our coupons, combined with the many security features built into our systems, make them the most fraud-resistant coupons available in any medium," said Steven R. Boal, Coupons Inc.'s CEO. "Although counterfeiting is rare, this gives us another tool to go directly after counterfeiters, permanently shut them down, and seek damages."
