Family Dollar Store Count Hits 6,000

MATTHEWS, N.C. -- Family Dollar Stores, Inc. said yesterday that it has opened its 6,000th store, located in Joliet, IL.

"Since opening our first store in 1959, Family Dollar has provided customers with values and convenience in easy-to-shop, neighborhood locations," said Howard Levine, Chairman and c.e.o. "The opening of our newest store in Joliet represents a significant milestone for Family Dollar, and is the result of the hard work and dedication of all our Family Dollar associates."

To mark the grand opening, Family Dollar said it would make a $6,000 donation to the local school library, and would present a matching donation to the Classroom Central program of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg school system, which provides much-needed school supplies for local low-income students.

Grand-opening giveaways, including an enter-to-win big-screen TV contest on February 25, will take place throughout the store's three-day grand opening celebration.

With 6,000 stores in a 44-state area ranging as far northwest as Idaho, northeast to Maine, southeast to Florida, and southwest to Arizona, Family Dollar is one of the fastest growing discount store chains in the United States.
