Ethnic Independent Converting Winn-Dixie Units in N.C.
NEW YORK -- Compare Foods, an independent operator with a flair for international merchandising, is converting four Winn-Dixie stores in and around the Charlotte, N.C. area.
Compare Foods was founded in New York and today operates almost two dozen stores in the United States. Its units are located in New York, North Carolina, Connecticut, and Rhode Island, according to published reports. The retailer said it strives to maintain a strong international taste in its stores by including a variety of ethnic products.
Compare Foods' owner, Elijo Peno, told Charlotte's News 14 that he plans to buy more Winn-Dixie locations. Two of the Winn-Dixie stores he bought are in Charlotte, and one each are in Gastonia and Durham, N.C.
