Dierbergs' Says Local Sourcing Moves Produce from Farm to Shelf in 24 Hours

ST. LOUIS -- Dierbergs is pushing "homegrown" fresh produce from local area farms that it says is so fresh it makes it from the field to the produce department "within 24 hours from when it was picked."

In its digital newsletter to shoppers, the regional chain said, "local farmers are picking the fresh bounty today, right now, for delivery to all Dierbergs stores." It went on to claim that "our homegrown produce is delivered fresh from the stalk, vine, or tree to Dierbergs stores within 24 hours from when it was picked."

The chain said it has spent decades building relationships with Missouri lproduce suppliers "who, like Dierbergs, have been part of the fabric of this community for years," in order to maintain such a local sourcing program. In the newsletter, the grocer named several family farms from which it sources its seasonal bounty each year.
