Diageo Names New President, National Accounts & Sales Development

NORWALK, Conn. -- Diageo North America said yesterday that it has named Tex McCarthy president, national accounts & sales development at the company. McCarthy succeeds Harry Bigelow, who is leaving Diageo at the end of September after 18 years.

McCarthy, who will join Diageo July 1 and will report to Diageo North America president and c.e.o. Ivan Menezes, currently is the v.p. of regional marketing at Beam Global Spirits & Wine. Before joining Beam, McCarthy was president of the southern business unit at Allied Domecq Spirits, USA; and spent 18 years with the Coors Brewing Co., where he held several senior sales positions.

Along with his duties as president national accounts at Diageo, McCarthy will handle Diageo North America sales development. He'll also be on the Diageo North America executive team.

"Tex will play a critical role as we endeavor to enhance and deepen our customer relationships," said Menezes in a statement. "His leadership and experience in all sectors of the business, and his commercial reputation, will be critical factors in driving the success of our new sales development vision."

When McCarthy joins the company, Bigelow will switch from overseeing national accounts, and work to further the company's worldwide sales agenda.

Diageo's portfolio of beverage alcohol brands includes Johnnie Walker, Guinness, Smirnoff, J&B, Baileys, Cuervo, Tanqueray, Captain Morgan, Crown Royal, Beaulieu Vineyard, and Sterling Vineyards wines.
