C&S Warehouse Approved by Town Planning Board
CHESTER, N.Y. -- By a six-to-one vote, the town planning board here has this week approved a proposal for Keene, N.H.-based C&S Wholesale Grocer to build a 90-foot-high, 373,547-square foot refrigerated warehouse in an industrial complex, bringing to a close a protracted battle between developers and some planning board members.
According to a published report, county planners noted the building will be one of the three tallest in Orange County.
The board's approval came with the proviso that the builders add more safeguards against truck backups and complete traffic improvements. The decision brought to a close an 18-month battle between real estate developer V. Paulius & Associates and its opponents --among them planning board member Barry Sloan -- who have cited potential traffic snarls and pollution as reasons to block the project.
The project next needs to receive approval Jan. 24 from the Chester Village planning board, as the structure will be partly located within the village. That approval is expected to be granted without objections.
According to V. Paulius & Associates, construction on the project could begin as soon as June.
