The grocer will pay $4.6 million for the 2007-2008 academic year for both the new recipients and previous scholarship recipients who are still attending school.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Wegmans Food Markets, Inc. here has awarded 1,416 employees from across the company scholarships to offset the cost of college tuition. The grocer will pay out a total of $4.6 million for the 2006-2007 academic year to new recipients and previous scholarship recipients still attending school. Since it began in 1984, the Wegmans Employee Scholarship Program has provided over $59 million in tuition assistance to more than 19,000 associates.
