Arlington Heights, Ill.-based Federated Group and Grocers Supply Inc. of Houston have entered into a joint venture with the goal of expanding the Grocers Supply’s Parade program.

Grocery wholesaler The Grocers Supply Co., Inc., has become a member of Skokie, Ill.-based Topco Associates, LLC, and will participate in its dairy/bakery, grocery, health and beauty care, general merchandise, pharmacy, processed meat, produce/floral, fresh meat, and not-for-resale programs.

The grocer said Ron McDearmon - a 44-year company veteran - would add some stability to the chain, which has had three CEOs since 2006.

The projected layoffs don't take into account the number of employees likely to be rehired by the new owners after the sale of the 37 stores goes through.

The deal, with 37 stores going to a group led by The Grocers Supply Co., will help Minyard better position itself against competition in its backyard.
