Clemens Gets Its Third State-Owned Liquor Store-In-Store

HARRISBURG, Pa. -- Clemens Markets, a Kulpsville, Pa.-based 20-store family retailer, is the proud recipient of a third One Stop Shop -- the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board's (PLCB) full-service wine and spirits store-within-a-store format -- in its Lionville supermarket located just outside of Exton, Pa.

The store is the 15th One Stop Shop approved by the PLCB, which has opened four such units in the Philadelphia area including a Clemens in Whitpain Township; a Super Fresh in both Lower Makefield and Boothwyn; and in Clemens' second upscale format, Food Source, in Concordville. Four additional One Stops have been approved in the five-county region and are scheduled to open by the fall of 2005.

The PLCB's initiative to locate stores within supermarkets has been one of the agency's most significant innovations in its 70-plus year history as part of an effort to provide a more convenient and customer-friendly environment. Under the initiative, PLCB employees staff the stores using PLCB cash registers as part of the 638-store operation.
