C.H. Robinson Organic Produce Brand Backs Sustainable Harvest
Our World Organics, C.H. Robinson Worldwide, Inc.'s proprietary organic produce brand, will donate a portion of its net profits to help Sustainable Harvest International (SHI) provide farming families with the training and tools to overcome poverty, while they help restore tropical forests.
Bud Floyd, C.H. Robinson's v.p. of produce marketing, said produce for the Our World organics line is "harvested from the fields of regional growers who want to leave a positive mark on their communities and the world. We are very impressed with Sustainable Harvest's work in Central America as they continue to improve the standard of living in many rural communities and help restore the rainforest."
SHI, a non-profit organization that focuses on sustainable agriculture, enables Central American communities to improve the local standard of living while restoring the rainforest through sustainable land-use practices.
Floyd said Our World Organics donations could result in the planting of as many as 250,000 trees each year.
"SHI not only works to restore the rainforests, but they are also helping impoverished families plant income-producing cash crops and gardens using sustainable agricultural techniques," said Floyd. "This helps guarantee that the trees will stay on the land and not be cleared years later."
Since 1997, SHI has worked with more than 1,350 families in 101 communities throughout Honduras, Panam., Belize and Nicaragua.
As one of the largest produce sourcing and non-asset based third party logistics companies in the world, the Minneapolis-based C.H. Robinson sources quality products while integrating value-added logistics, distribution, and information reporting services.
