Brooklyn Fairway Store Debuts Kosher Bakery

03/16/2017

The bakery of Fairway Market’s most recently opened store, in the Georgetown community of Brooklyn, has been certified fully kosher by Mehadrin Kosher and KOF-K Kosher Supervision, making it one of the largest in any supermarket in the New York metropolitan area, according to the food retailer.

All of the section’s loose and freshly baked items are held to a strict kosher standard, with regular visits from a rabbi or a mashgiach, a dedicated Fairway kosher supervisor, and 95 percent of all of the facility’s packaged goods are also kosher. The products that aren’t are clearly labeled with a white-on-black sign to enable shoppers to tell items' status at a glance.

All of the in-store bakery’s fresh bagels, rolls and baguettes are certified kosher parve (a classification of foods that contain neither dairy nor meat ingredients) as well. The dough is made in a strictly kosher central commissary in the Hunts Point section of the Bronx and shipped daily to Fairway’s 15 stores across the tristate area of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.

Among the section’s additional kosher items baked throughout the day to maintain freshness are pastries, muffins, cookies and scones.

“The Fairway Market in Georgetown offers many unique products that cater specifically to the Georgetown community, and its fully certified kosher bakery is just a further testament to the company’s unyielding commitment to the local neighborhood and providing what their customers want,” the New York-based company said.

The Georgetown Fairway Market will be the subject of an upcoming Progressive Grocer Store of the Month feature.
