British Royal At Fresh & Easy Opening in Compton, Calif.

LOS ANGELES - Tesco's Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market last week hosted His Royal Highness Prince Andrew, Duke of York and U.K.'s Special Representative for Trade & Investment, at the unveiling of its newest store in Compton, Calif.

Prince Andrew joined L.A. county supervisor Yvonne Burke, Compton mayor Eric Perrodin and Fresh & Easy c.e.o. Tim Mason at the opening.

"By locating stores in areas like Compton, Tesco's Fresh & Easy will help contribute to local job creation in neighborhoods that badly need it," said Prince Andrew.

"Fresh & Easy is committed to opening stores in all types of neighborhoods," said Mason. "We believe everyone deserves fresh, wholesome food at affordable prices, regardless of where they live, and [we are bringing] a modern grocery market offering competitive new jobs with comprehensive benefits to Compton."

Fresh & Easy currently operates 43 grocery markets throughout Southern California and in Nevada and Arizona. The company is a subsidiary of U.K.-based Tesco, one of the world's largest international retailers, which has invested $2 billion over five years in Fresh & Easy.
