B&R Stores to Buy Grand Central Apple Market

B&R Stores, Inc. said it plans to purchase family-owned Grand Central Apple Market in Kearney, Neb. in a deal slated to be completed by month's end.

"The Grand Central supermarket has been a cornerstone of the Kearney community for 39 years, and its legacy as a family-owned business continues on," said Pat Raybould, president of B&R Stores. "It's already a fundamentally strong business."

B&R Stores management said it plans to meet with each existing Grand Central employee to discuss employment opportunities that will exist following the close of the sale. Raybould said he hopes that most current store employees will continue under the new ownership.

Terms of the transaction were not disclosed, and the deal involves only the Kearney Apple Market location.

B&R Stores, Inc., a Lincoln, Neb.-based employee-owned company, operates 19 supermarkets in Lincoln, Omaha, Hastings, Columbus, Grand Island, and Council Bluffs, Iowa under the banners of Russ's Market, Super Saver, and ALPS.
