BJ's, Local Kids to Show Support for Overseas Military Personnel

NATICK, Mass. - BJ's Wholesale Club has joined up with thousands of children to support military men and women serving overseas. In honor of USA Weekend's national Make A Difference Day, each of BJ's 153 locations will host a "Heart of Gold Hero Bags" project on Saturday, Oct. 23 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

At the one-day event kids and families will create personalized "Heart of Gold Hero Bags" filled with snacks and handmade "Thankful Thoughts" cards that expressing their gratitude for our America's servicemen and servicewomen.

"We are all extremely thankful for the many brave men and women serving
our country overseas," said BJ's president and c.e.o. Michael T. Wedge in a statement. "The 'Heart of Gold Hero Bag' program is a great way for families to show their appreciation for our troops while teaching children about the value of community service."

Children and their families can drop by their local BJ's to fill the "Hero" bags with such snacks as fruit drinks, candy, granola bars, and Oreo cookies. The project is free to the public, with all products being donated by BJ's. In all, almost 7,300 bags are expected to be filled for military personnel. BJ's has partnered with the USO to distribute care packages to troops overseas.

Make A Difference Day, the largest national day of helping others, was created to give kids an opportunity to share through community service and to learn that their actions are important. Last year 3 million people took part in volunteer activities related to this annual event.
