BJ’s Debuts ‘Farm to Club’ Produce

BJ’s Wholesale Club’s new locally grown produce program, “Farm to Club,” will roll out this spring and summer to all 195 of the company’s clubs in its 15-state footprint. The program provides BJ’s members with fresh produce from area farms, including zucchini, tomatoes, corn, green peppers, yellow squash and cucumbers, all clearly marked with a special “Farm to Club, Locally Grown” seal.

BJ’s defines “local” as grown within the same state in which it’s purchased. According to the Westborough, Mass.-based retailer, buying local produce benefits BJ’s members, their communities and local farms alike: Since the produce doesn’t have far to travel, its nutritional value and freshness is preserved, and buying local additionally improves the area’s economy by boosting the local agricultural industry and helping to keep money within the community.

“As a buyer at BJ’s, I strive to provide the very best produce for members,” noted BJ’s produce buyer Rob Johnson. “The Farm to Club program is very good for both the members who buy the local fruits and veggies and the farmers who are growing our food.”

As the weather and growing season for each vegetable and fruit varies from state to state, so will the dates that Farm to Club produce becomes available at different clubs. The program’s produce is now at all Florida clubs. Members can get updates on when local Farm to Club produce is available in their states, or find out more about available Farm to Club vegetables and fruit, by visiting BJ’s Facebook page.
