Bfresh Opens 3rd Boston Location
Ahold Delhaize’s bfresh small-format concept opened its latest location on Friday, Feb. 24 at 9 a.m. in Somerville, Mass. The 11,000-square-foot store marks the third bfresh store to open in the greater Boston area and will provide about 90 full- and part-time jobs.
The inaugural bfresh store opened in Allston in September 2015, with a subsequent one coming to Brighton in August 2016. A location in Fairfield, Conn., fared less well, shutting its doors last year after just a few months, due to its unsuitability for the geographic area, as the banner noted at the time. Under the recently introduced consolidation of Ahold Delhaize’s U.S. divisions – described by the retail conglomerate as a way to strengthen its various brands – bfresh is included as part of the single combined Stop & Shop organization, Kevin Holt, COO of Quincy, Mass.-based Ahold USA, told Progressive Grocer, earlier this month.
The concept offers more natural and organic options than a typical market, vegan and gluten-free options, and specialty foods. Its Little Kitchen provides convenient, affordable options for busy urban shoppers: grab-and-go, ready-to-eat and ready-to-heat items, along with fresh meal components to simplify home cooking.
“Shoppers want to keep things simple,” said bfresh team coach Coby Reinhardt. “They want fresh foods, right in their neighborhood, that they can afford. bfresh is all about meeting those needs. No matter how you want to shop – like stocking up for the week, buying fresh for meals every day or stopping in to grab the freshest quick bite in town – bfresh has got you covered.”
In addition to fresh, healthy foods and low prices, bfresh features thousands of popular name-brand items as well as affordable own-store brands.
The store will be open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
