Between Rounds Café Establishes C-store Franchise Division

SOUTH WINDSOR, Conn. -- A locally based café and bagel shop chain is looking to put a new spin on convenience by franchising its business model to gas stations.

Between Rounds, which offers customers fresh bagels, baked goods, sandwiches and gourmet coffee, franchised its first non-traditional gas station/convenience store model at a CITGO Express in Tolland, Conn., approximately one year ago. The bagel shop chain has three other Connecticut locations in South Windsor, Vernon and Manchester.

The franchise business model enables gas station and convenience store owners to increase profits at an existing location with foodservice offerings that attract repeat customers, said Jerry Puiia, Between Rounds' founder and franchisor.

"We have directly competed, yet coexisted, with Dunkin' Donuts and Subway for more than 22 years," Puiia explained. "Our reputation for offering fresh, high-quality food at affordable prices is key and when coupled with a lower entry point for the potential franchisee, it's a win."

Between Rounds is looking to expand its concept throughout New England and is actively seeking "creative partners to develop unique designs and arrangements," according to the company.

"The Between Rounds gas station/convenience store franchise opportunity has low startup costs compared to similar franchises, and utility and facility maintenance costs are only minimally increased," Puiia added. "Best of all, we make it easy to operate and train existing staff using our detailed training guides and checklists. Not only does an owner enjoy additional profits from their existing location … all those profits from increased sales stay in the owner's pocket."
