Bashas' Holds Statewide Food Drive
During the month of August, Bashas' is joining forces with local radio stations to hold a food drive throughout its home state of Arizona. All donations from the campaign will go to area food banks and St. Vincent de Paul, the chain said.
Eighty-two Bashas' stores across Arizona will take part in the "Hunger Doesn't Take a Vacation" food drive, selling $1 icons at their cash registers from Aug. 1 through Aug. 31.
Besides helping need families, customers who donate will have the chance to win such prizes as Arizona "staycations," water park passes, movie passes, and concert tickets from partner radio stations KESZ Radio in Phoenix, KIIM Radio in Tucson, and KAFF Radio in Flagstaff.
The food drive aims to raise at least $20,000 for local nonprofits. Food assistance organizations say they're seeing an increase in requests for assistance, due to such factors as the weak economy and rising gasoline prices.
Bashas' is based in Chandler, Ariz.
