‘Apple-Tizer’ Recipe Contest Rolls Out for Nat’l Apple Month
In honor of National Apple Month in October, the U.S. Apple Association (USApple) is inviting consumers to submit their favorite bite-sized treats including apples and apple products in the “Apple-Tizer” Recipe Contest. Three winners will each receive a $200 Visa gift card and be featured on the association’s website.
“On trend with popular pairing parties and casual at-home entertaining, the contest aims to inspire consumers to experiment with apples and apple products, incorporating them into simple appetizers, small plates, finger foods and raw pairings that can be easily prepared and enjoyed,” explained Allison Parker, director of consumer health and education for Vienna, Va.-based USApple, the national trade association representing all segments of the apple industry.
To enter, consumers can visit www.USAppleBlog.org/recipe-contest and submit recipe details and a photo by midnight EST Oct. 31. One winner will be chosen in each of three categories: most kid-friendly, best raw pairing and best use of apple product.
“We’re providing recipe inspiration for the entire month of October,” observed Parker. “While apples and apple products are available year-round, National Apple Month puts the spotlight on the all-American fruit, at the peak of the U.S. apple harvest, reminding us it’s a great time to sample the wide range of apple varieties on the market and introduce products like applesauce, apple cider and apple jelly into our snacks and meals.”
For recipe inspiration, consumers can visit USApple's recipe database or download such National Apple Month materials as a variety guide, tasting note cards and a chef-created pairing menu. Consumers also can follow USApple on Facebook and Twitter for “Apple a Day” posts to learn more about popular varieties, glean apple tips and tricks, and get Apple-Tizer contest updates.
