A&P to Put DVD Rental Kiosks in 30 Stores
MONTVALE, N.J. -- The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company, Inc. here has contracted TNR Entertainment Corp. (The New Release) to provide The New Release automated DVD rental kiosks in 30 A&P and SuperFresh locations in Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware. The A&P kiosks will be installed this month.
The New Release kiosks accept a credit or debit card to let customers start browsing and choosing the latest DVD titles on kiosk's touchscreen at the rate of $1 day. Additionally, rather than an inflexible 24-hour rental period, customers have until midnight on the next day to return the rented DVD before incurring a second day's rental fee. TNR serves nearly 1 million customers monthly across its national network of kiosks currently deployed in Texas, North Carolina, Florida, Indiana, Wisconsin, and Colorado. TNR kiosks store up to 1,000 individual DVDs and up to 200 titles, including the latest movies released every Tuesday. The fully automated kiosks run on a wireless communications network and next-generation DVD kiosks operating system.
A&P operates 407 stores in nine states and the District of Columbia under the A&P, Waldbaum's, The Food Emporium, Super Foodmart, SuperFresh, Farmer Jack, Sav-A-Center, and Food Basics banners.
TNR, which has rented more than 10 million DVDs since 2002, said it is planning an aggressive expansion of its retail locations in 2006, with the aim of quadrupling its kiosk network as it enters new markets. The company also has agreements with such retailers as Food Lion, Kroger, and Safeway, while rival redbox recently inked a deal with Stop & Shop/Giant Food.
