ALDI to Expand Penn. Food Distribution Center

BATAVIA, Ill. -- International discount food retailer ALDI, with U.S. headquarters here, will expand its food distribution center in Center Valley, Pa.

The addition will consist of mainly freezer, dry storage area and a new office area, as well as renovations to an existing 180,000 square foot area.

Aldi Group, owned by German brothers Karl and Theo Albrecht -- who also own Trader Joe's -- has been adding 40 to 50 stores a year, many of which are found in higher income communities. The company is eying a projected store count of 1,000 U.S. supermarkets by 2010. Its current 800 U.S. stores generate about $5 billion in annual sales.
