Ahold's Board Gets New Member from Albert Heijn Fold

AMSTERDAM -- Ahold said yesterday that Dick Boer, president and c.e.o. of the retail conglomerate's Albert Heijn Arena, has been nominated for appointment by the supervisory board to the company's corporate executive board, effective immediately, according to published reports.

The general meeting of shareholders for his appointment will be scheduled at a later date, Ahold said.

As an executive board member Boer, who will continue at the helm of the Albert Heijn arena, will lead a review of Ahold's retail operations, the aim of which will be to accelerate plans to drive and fund identical-sales volume growth across Ahold's retail businesses. Assisting in the review will be Ahold's c.f.o., John Rishton, and the president and c.e.o. of the company's U.S. Foodservice division, Lawrence Benjamin.

Joining Ahold in 1998 as c.e.o. of Ahold Czech Republic, Boer became Albert Heijn president and c.e.o. two years later. In 2003 he was named president and c.e.o. of the Albert Heijn Arena, which consists of Albert Heijn, Etos, and Gall & Gall. Before coming to Ahold, Boer spent over 17 years in various retail positions for SHV Holdings both in the Netherlands and abroad, and for Unigro N.V., currently Laurus N.V.

Noted Ahold president and c.e.o. Anders Moberg in a statement: "[Dick's] highly successful value-repositioning program at Albert Heijn continues to increase our market share and drive profitable growth in that arena. I...am confident that he will play a significant role in contributing to the execution of our group-wide initiatives and future strategy."
