Ahold to Help Stage Grocery Diversity Trade Fair Next Month

QUINCY, Mass. -- Ahold USA here, together with Cleveland, Ohio-based Efficient Collaborative Retail Marketing (ECRM), will host a grocery diversity trade fair on Aug. 22, as part of a weeklong series of Efficient Program Planning Sessions (EPPS) presented by ECRM in Houston.

The Ahold-supported fair will provide women and minority-owned businesses with a forum to meet with and discuss diversity programs with major retailers and manufacturers. Features will include general sessions, panel discussions, and the opportunity to meet one-on-one with diversity teams from both the supply and sell sides. Industry leaders will also address how women and minority-owned companies can go to market effectively and attain long-term stability and growth.

According to the ECRM Web site, retailers at the fair will include Ahold banner Giant-Carlisle, A&P, BJ's Wholesale Club, Brookshire Brothers, Kroger, Minyard Food Stores, Nash Finch, Pathmark, Safeway, Save-A-Lot, United Supermarkets, and Wegmans.

The fair will be held in conjunction the "Hispanic and International Foods" and "Non-Foods and Hispanic Marketing", two ECRM EPPS events.

In other Ahold news, the Amsterdam-based parent company Royal Ahold said yesterday that it has nominated Tom de Swaan, the former c.f.o. of ABN AMRO Bank N.V. to a position on its supervisory board. De Swaan's election will be on the agenda of the next general meeting of the company's shareholders.

De Swaan would replace ex-Philips c.f.o. Jan Hommen, who has served as a member of the board and chairman of Royal Ahold's audit committee since 2003.
