Ag Sec Johanns To Keynote United Breakfast in Chicago
WASHINGTON -- The United Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Association has added Agriculture Secretary Mike Johanns to the agenda as the keynote speaker at its annual meeting and awards breakfast on Monday, May 8, during the United Produce Show at FMI in Chicago.
Noted United president Tom Stenzel, "Secretary Johanns has listened carefully to the needs and goals of our industry since coming to Washington, DC, and we truly appreciate his leadership of American agriculture."
Johanns is expected to share insights from the many listening sessions he conducted in advance of the upcoming 2007 Farm Bill, and provide his views on the role fruits and vegetables may play in the bill. In addition, he's expected to address the important role the industry plays in helping Americans improve their health by eating the recommended five-to-13 servings of fruits and vegetables a day recommended in the 2005 USDA-HHS Dietary Guidelines.
In addition to Johanns' keynote address, the annual meeting and awards breakfast will feature presentation of the United Retail Produce Managers awards for 2006, graduation of Class 11 of the United Produce Industry Leadership Program, and presentation of the Packer's Produce Person of the Year.
Early registration rates for the Show and the All-Access Produce Convention Pass end March 31. Those who wish to attend should visit http://www.produceshow.com.
