AG New England Marks 60th Anniversary at Annual Meeting
PEMBROKE, N.H. -- There was more to celebrate at Associated Grocers of New England's annual meeting than the cooperative's second-highest annual sales of $266,816,460 -- the company also marked its 60th year of existence at the event.
"This past year's construction of our new distribution center in Pembroke...is a major milestone that brought us back to our roots," said AG New England president and c.e.o. Michael C. Bourgoine in a statement. "Sixty years ago the company was formed in nearby Concord, N.H. by a small group of independent grocers who recognized they could better compete by combining their buying power. The occasion of our 60th anniversary is also the culmination of a year of great accomplishments."
"The greatest challenges still lie ahead," added AG New England's new chairman of the board of directors, Tom Bradbury. "Despite competition levels we have never before seen here in New England, there is still a place for independent, community-minded retailers. Consumers are responding to those independents who meet their needs."
AG New England, owned entirely by independent retail grocers as members of a cooperative, is the largest retailer-owned wholesale grocery distribution center in New England. The company serves independent retail food stores in Maine, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont, and the upstate New York/Albany area.
