Affiliated Foods Midwest CEO Wins NGA Spirit of America Award

The National Grocers Association (NGA) has named Martin Arter, president/CEO of Affiliated Foods Midwest, the winner of its Spirit of America Award.

The honor, which recognizes dedication and service to the independent supermarket industry, was presented at the Nebraska Grocery Industry Association’s Annual Legislative Dinner on Jan. 28.

“Martin has been a steadfast leader and advocate for the independent supermarket operator," said NGA President and CEO Peter J. Larkin, who presented the award. "As an industry executive, he truly understands the importance of educating both state and federal lawmakers on industry issues and how those issues impact independent supermarkets."

Added Kathy Siefken, president of NGIA, "Martin’s relationships with our state legislature and administration as well as with our congressional delegation have helped to solidify the important role Nebraska’s supermarket industry plays in helping to advance our industry’s agenda.  NGIA is grateful for his leadership and support of our industry."

NGA has given the Spirit of America Award to more than 550 individuals, including Presidents George H. W. Bush and Gerald Ford.
