Winn-Dixie Sells Dixie Packers Manufacturing Facility to Smithfield Packing Co.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Taking another step in its asset rationalization plan, Winn-Dixie Stores, Inc. has sold its Dixie Packers manufacturing facility in Madison County, Fla., to The Smithfield Packing Co., Inc. The financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
"The sale of Dixie Packers is an important step forward with the strategic initiatives we announced last January to improve the company's competitive positioning," said Winn-Dixie president and c.e.o. Frank Lazaran in a statement released yesterday.
As part of the transaction, Winn-Dixie and Smithfield have entered into a supply agreement under which Smithfield will continue to provide Winn-Dixie with products manufactured at the Dixie Packers facility. Dixie Packers currently produces a range of smoked hams, hot dogs, sausages, sliced lunchmeats, and other processed meat products for Winn-Dixie.
Winn-Dixie previously announced that it had designated its manufacturing operations as noncore, and said it was in discussions regarding the sale of Dixie Packers, Crackin' Good Bakers, Crackin' Good Snacks, and Montgomery Pizza.
