Winn-Dixie Reportedly in Talks to Sell Dairy Operations to Dean Foods

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Winn-Dixie Stores here is reportedly in talks to sell its dairy processing business to Dean Foods Co., according to TheDeal.com Web site.

Citing unnamed sources, the site said it is believed Dean Foods would bid around $200 million for the retailer's five dairy plants, which process milk and make cheese and other dairy products for Winn-Dixie's stores. The division had sales of $700 million in 2002 when it operated eight plants; three plants have since been shut down.

Spokespeople at both Winn-Dixie and Dean Foods declined comment, according to the site.
