Winn-Dixie Launches Cancer Awareness/Donation Program
Winn-Dixie Stores, Inc., working with the American Cancer Society as part of its observance of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, has launched a month-long program to raise awareness about early detection of breast cancer, raise money for treatment and find a cure.
The Jacksonville, Fla.-based grocer's program, Touching Lives for a Better Tomorrow, has four components. The first component is the American Cancer Society Donation Program, which allows customers to make a donation at checkout of any amount between 50 cents and $500.
In Making Strides Against Cancer, Winn-Dixie is the title sponsor of 28 races across Florida and the inaugural event in Mobile. Ala. The noncompetitive walk raised $5.4 million last year. Money raised through these two components will fund local programs, research for a cure and services to women.
Through "In-Store Awareness," the grocer will feature pink flowers, bakery products with pink icing and other vendor products supporting breast cancer awareness.
For the final component of the program, the grocer will work again with the National Breast Cancer Foundation, on an initiative similar to last year's, when Winn-Dixie raised $250,000.
