Winn-Dixie Creates New Customer Service Role; Reopens All Fla. Stores

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Winn-Dixie continues to pick itself up from disasters both financial and natural. As part of its effort to up the ante in customer service, Winn-Dixie Stores, Inc. here has created a new position -- v.p. of store training and front end service. Meanwhile, all its Florida units are now up and running.

Scott Moore, who most recently served as senior director of training and development with the company, will fill the new role, according to a report in the Jacksonville Business Journal. Moore joined the company in 2002 as a divisional human resources manager.

In his new role, Moore will help make store front lobbies "inviting, bright, and staffed with friendly and knowledgeable associates who let customers know Winn-Dixie truly appreciates their business," according to an internal company memo cited in the press report.

The company is also planning more of a "customer czar" position, which would be more strategic, a spokesman told the newspaper.

In other Winn-Dixie news, the Southern retailer said yesterday it has reopened all of its 145 stores in South Florida that had previously closed due to severe weather conditions or damage caused by Hurricane Wilma.

In the Miami area, all of the company's 88 stores are open, with 86 operating under full power selling all items including dairy, meats, and fresh produce. The remaining two stores are operating on generator power, selling non-perishables items. The company will be connecting the two remaining stores to semi-truck size "platform" generators that can run the entire store until power is restored to those neighborhoods.

Winn-Dixie said it is working to restore full power to all of its stores as quickly as possible.
