WinCo Entering Okla.
WinCo Foods is expanding its footprint into Oklahoma with three new stores, all in the Oklahoma City area, The Oklahoman has reported.
Based in Boise, Idaho, WinCo is opening a 84,000-square-foot store in Moore on May 25, followed by at least two other locations, in Oklahoma City and Midwest City, during the coming year. Construction already has begun on both of those stores, the newspaper said.
Nancy Lebold, a WinCo SVP, pointed to Oklahoma's “good, hardworking communities with families with kids looking to stretch their dollars” as the reason that the chain expanding in the state. She also cited the way Moore's community recovered following tornadoes in 1999 and 2013.
The Moore store, which will be open 24 hours a day, will offer WinCo's signature Wall of Values at the front entrance, where it will sell bulk foods that can be bought by weight, including pasta, flour, beans, candy and spices. According to The Oklahoman, shoppers also may pick up prepackaged foods in bulk for long-term storage or products packaged for family consumption.
Also available will be a delicatessen that offers seafood and sushi, as well as a bakery. Customers will be able to order bulk foods, cakes and deli trays online.
The company first began scouting locations in Oklahoma City, Moore and Midwest City in late 2014, and is now finally making its debut in the the Sooner State. The new location in Moore brings the retailer's current numbers to 17,000 workers across 115 stores in Washington, Idaho, Nevada, California, Oregon, Utah, Arizona, Texas and Oklahoma.
