Wild American Shrimp Netted at Grocery Chains

TARPON SPRINGS, Fla. -- Wild American Shrimp-certified products are making their debut on grocery store shelves this month in retailers including Publix, A&P, Albertsons, Kroger, and Wal-Mart.

Through its certification program, Wild American Shrimp certifies that products labeled with the organization's mark are warm-water shrimp, wild-caught from the Gulf and South Atlantic waters.

"With our new Wild American shrimp certification mark, consumers can be assured that the shrimp they purchase meets standards for U.S. origin, quality, and consistency," said Eddie Gordon, executive dir. for Wild American Shrimp.

The certification program will also help U.S. shrimpers keep their businesses alive. For the most part these are small, family-owned operations that have seen hard times because of the expansion of farm-raised shrimp exported from overseas.

Wild American Shrimp Inc. is a non-profit corporation committed to ensuring the viability of America's domestic, wild-caught shrimp industry.
