Whole Foods, Garden Highway Team for Pop-Up Farmer's Market Event
Whole Foods Midwest is teaming up with Renaissance Food Group's (RFG) Garden Highway brand and Tessemae’s All Natural to deliver Crop Circles, a community event that will feature a pop-up style farmer's market with a free produce giveaway in Chicago.
Designed to bring fresh fruit and vegetables and an awareness of living a healthy life to food deserts across America, Crop Circles will take place on Aug. 22 at TEAM Englewood Academy in the Englewood neighborhood of Chicago and is expected to draw more 3,000 residents.
As the second event of its kind following a successful debut in Compton, Calif., all attendees of the Chicago event will receive a free tote to fill with a variety of fruit and vegetables. In addition, the event will include a variety of booths featuring wellness-based companies, a celebrity appearance, competition-style cook-off and a live DJ.
Indianapolis-based Caito Foods, a fresh-cut processor and distributor, helped secure 20,000 pounds of donated produce, and will also donate transportation for all product to the event site.
“As American’s shift their focus towards the importance of a fresh and healthy lifestyle, we are finding that too many communities are still underserved without access to daily fruit and vegetables,” said Jim Catchot, RFG company president. “Crop Circles is working towards a goal of educating, empowering, and equipping residents of the communities we serve with this great event."
