Weis Unveils Fan-created Ice Cream Flavor

Weis Markets is celebrating July’s National Ice Cream Month by launching a new Weis Quality Ice Cream flavor created by Muncy, Pa., resident, Heather Simmons. Simmons’ creation, Chocolate Covered Strawberry, was chosen as the grand-prize winner during Weis’ “Be the Next Flavor Creator Contest.”

The company unveiled the new flavor during an ice cream social at its Muncy store on Friday, where Weis customers had the opportunity to sample the ice cream. In addition to having Simmons’ flavor sold in all 164 of its stores, Weis also awarded her with one year’s supply of Weis Quality Ice Cream.

Earlier this spring, the company asked its Facebook fans to create their own flavor of Weis Quality Ice Cream. More than 400 entries were submitted to Weis' Facebook page, and the company narrowed the field to the top three flavors. Facebook fans then had the opportunity to vote on their favorite, and Chocolate Covered Strawberry received 51 percent of the votes.

Founded in 1912, Sunbury, Pa.-based Weis Markets operates 164 stores in Pennsylvania, Maryland, New Jersey, New York and West Virginia.
