The SupplierMAX solution from Kuebix has enabled Weis Markets to better control its inbound shipments
Since teaming several months ago with Maynard, Mass.-based logistics technology provider Kuebix, Weis Markets Inc. has improved its supply chain visibility and control of its process flow, financials and cost of goods.
Before the partnership launched, the majority of Weis shipments were vendor-controlled, resulting in process inefficiencies and higher costs. Kuebix’s SupplierMAX, a customizable, technology-based solution, now manages Weis’ inbound shipments and partly outsources transportation management to the vendor’s logistics experts.
The solution improves supplier behavior and boosts warehouse and distribution center efficiency by incorporating comprehensive strategies to enhance inbound operations. These strategies include creating a plan with suppliers to lower the number of inbound carrier deliveries and related costs by consolidating less-than-truckload shipments into full truckloads. The program also manages vendor inbound compliance procedures (VICS) and routing guides.
“Kuebix has become the foundation of our managed transportation services program for all inbound shipments,” noted Wayne Bailey, SVP of supply chain and logistics at Sunbury, Pa.-based Weis Markets. “Kuebix has provided Weis the necessary information for all stakeholders to operate at the highest level of efficiency.”
Since the implementation of the VICS program, Weis Markets has smoothed its inbound flow and upped efficiencies through changed practices across the supply chain.
Overall, the solution has enabled the grocer to change additional inbound shipments to Weis Markets-controlled, lower its landed cost of goods and break apart costing components, simplifying what had historically been a complex process.
Weis Markets operates 205 stores in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, New York, Virginia and West Virginia. It ranked 27th in Progressive Grocer’s 2018 Super 50 listing of the top grocers in the United States.
