Wegmans Making Apple Pay Available to Customers
Starting Oct. 20, Wegmans Food Markets Inc. will permit customers to check out with Apple Pay, the new service that assigns a unique Device Account Number instead of storing actual credit or debit card numbers on a device or on Apple servers.
With Apple Pay, each transaction is authorized by a one-time unique dynamic security code, rather than the security code on the back of a card.
"Apple Pay is easy to use and secure, two things that we know are very important to our customers," noted Jo Natale, director of media relations at Rochester, N.Y.-based Wegmans, a family-owned chain with 85 stores in New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia, Maryland and Massachusetts.
The service, which Austin, Texas-based Whole Foods Market began accepting at its stores last month, will work with iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus and Apple Watch at all checkout locations in Wegmans stores, including pharmacy.
