Wegmans Inducted Into Retail Best Practices Hall of Fame at Magazine Conference

PHOENIX, Ariz. -- Wegmans became the inaugural recipient of the Retail Best Practices Hall of Fame Award yesterday at The Retail Best Practices Awards ceremony held by Magazine Publishers of America (MPA) and International Periodical Distributors Association (IPDA), during the Retail Conference 2005: The Marketing of Magazines and Books.

Wegmans was recognized for its significant and longstanding contributions to the magazine and book publishing industries, and for demonstrating leadership, skill and understanding in support of the industry.

In addition, six retailers received Periodical Merchandising Excellence awards. Four awards were given to stores in the Mass Merchandise/Grocery/Drug category, and were awarded to the following retailers:
-- H-E-B Grocery Co. -- for excellence in cross-merchandising.
-- Safeway Inc. -- for excellence in checkout merchandising.
-- The Kroger Company -- for excellence in mainline merchandising.
-- Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. -- for excellence in promotional programs.

Two awards were given to stores in the Transportation/Bookstore/Specialty/Military category. HMSHost, Inc. received an award for excellence in mainline merchandising. And, The Hudson Group received an award for excellence in checkout promotion.

The Periodical Merchandising Best Practices Awards, previously the Retail Best Practices Awards, were restructured for this year. For the first time, retailers were able to nominate themselves for the awards. Willard Bishop Consulting, an independent consultancy, oversaw the award selection process. This is the fourth year of the Awards.
