Washington Nationals Sign Safeway for Two-Year Contract

LANHAM, Md. -- Safeway, Inc.'s Eastern Division is looking to hit a marketing grand slam as the Official Grocery Store of the Washington Nationals, via a joint agreement signed yesterday with the Major League baseball baseball franchise.

Thanks to the agreement, Safeway will be able to run in-stadium promotions, advertise in team-controlled media, and host Safeway Club Card Nights offering discounted tickets to select games.

"We see this as a partnership that will be great for both Safeway and the Nationals," said Safeway Eastern Division president Hank Cominiello. "We are truly teaming up to promote synergy between the two organizations. I think the result will score big with fans of the Nationals and Safeway."

Safeway's Eastern Division operates 179 stores, including 16 in the District of Columbia, and approximately 100 in the Washington metropolitan area, and employs approximately 16,000 people.
