Walmart Taps Visa to Enhance Reloadable Prepaid Card Program

Visa reloadable prepaid cardholders can now add funds to their general purpose reloadable (GPR) cards by simply swiping them at the register of participating Walmart stores.

The customer convenience results from the integration of the retailer’s Rapid Reload program with Visa ReadyLink using technology from InComm, a provider of point-of-sale (POS) technology solutions. The partnership eliminates the need for customers to purchase and then redeem a separate reload pack. They can add funds to their cards using cash or check for a $3.74 reload fee.

Walmart’s program serves 14 GPR cards and prepaid programs, enabling customers to reload their cards with a simple swipe at the register. The retailer’s Rapid Reload customer base will expand by integrating with Visa ReadyLink, which serves more than 100 prepaid programs.

“The integration of Visa ReadyLink with Walmart’s Rapid Reload delivers on InComm’s vision to expand the swipe reload technology and streamline the customer experience at the register, simplify the sales process for employees and increase retail foot traffic,” said Jeff Lewis, VP and general manager, Financial Services, InComm.

Cecilia Frew, head of US Prepaid Products, Visa, said, “With consumers increasingly adopting GPR cards, Visa is committed to providing simple and convenient reload solutions to offer innovative ways for consumers to shop and pay.”
