Walmart to Streamline Online Product Availability
Despite a recent news report, Wal-Mart Stores Inc. will not be consolidating its distinct buying operations for in-store and online products, but instead will simplify the process for items to appear online.
According to the company, under the simplified process, if an item is available for sale in a store, it will also be approved for sale online, and the store buyer may purchase the item for both channels. Previously, a supplier would have to deal with two separate buyers to make an item available both in-store and online. Suppliers will still need to deal with the Walmart.com buyer for online-only items, however, regardless of whether or not the company already does business with the suppliers.
“This is part of a continued effort to better serve customers by creating a more efficient process that accelerates how we bring the full assortment of products in stores to Walmart.com,” the Bentonville, Ark.-based mega-retailer said in a statement. “It also allows for Walmart.com buyers to focus on expanding the online assortment.”
