Walmart Pay Now Available Nationwide
Wal-Mart Stores Inc. has introduced its Walmart Pay platform, which enables customers to purchase items with their smartphones, in the mega-retailer’s 4,600-plus Walmart stores across the country.
Following its debut late last year, the platform rolled out to more than 600 stores in Arkansas and Texas in May, and then 14 more states and the District of Columbia in the past month.
Accessed through the Walmart mobile app, Walmart Pay is compatible with any iOS or Android device, at any checkout lane, and with any credit, debit, pre-paid or Walmart gift card. According to the company, Walmart Pay transactions are safe and secure, taking place behind its firewalls, with no payment credentials ever stored on a customer’s phone or exchanged at the point of sale.
“There is something very powerful about the ease and simplicity of Walmart Pay,” said Daniel Eckert, SVP, services, Walmart U.S. “What’s even more powerful though, is what this means for our customers. We want to make every day easier for busy families. We’re connecting all the parts of Walmart into one seamless shopping experience with great stores, easy pickup, fast delivery, frictionless checkout, and apps and websites that are simple to use.”
Added Eckert: “Walmart Pay is just the beginning. We’re building deeper relationships with our customers across our ecosystem and are looking forward to delivering new tools like Walmart Pay that allow them to use the Walmart App as their remote control for a faster, more convenient shopping experience.”
Walmart noted, among other figures, that Walmart Pay transactions had increased 45 percent in the past week, and that 82 percent of customers would recommend using the platform.
Bentonville, Ark.-based Walmart operates 11,527 stores under 63 banners in 28 countries, and e-commerce websites in 11 countries.
