Walmart Awards Grants in New Washington State Giving Program

Walmart Stores, Inc. and the Wal-Mart Foundation said Tuesday that 12 nonprofit organizations have received grants in their new state giving program in Washington state. The total amount of the grants is $307,000. Washington organizations receiving grants include the American Diabetes Association, the Salvation Army, and the YMCA. The program supports nonprofit groups with unmet needs not currently being fulfilled by existing programs.

The foundation uses state giving advisory councils, composed of Walmart associates for every state and Washington, D.C. The councils determine needs within their states, review grant applications, and make funding recommendations to the foundation, which has adopted four focus areas: education, job skills training, environmental sustainability, and health.
