Wal-Mart Unveils New Look in Michigan
GRAND BLANC, Mich. -- A new Wal-Mart in Grand Blanc, Mich., reveals the chain's latest attempt at looking more upscale, with an exterior and interior upgrade that will reportedly be applied broadly to the supercenter concept.
The new unit, which follows Wal-Mart's "store of the community" concept, features brick exterior instead of the gray and blue colors Wal-Mart has become known for. Inside, wood floors are featured in the clothing and home areas. Other features include better lighting and skylights to draw in natural light, polished concrete floors, and wider aisles.
The new look is being used in all new Wal-Mart supercenters, Roderick Scott, Wal-Mart community affairs manager, told the Detroit Free Press. He said Wal-Mart is taking its stores "to the next level."
The Grand Blanc unit also includes offers front end services such as a nail salon, hair salon, bank, restrooms, and a Subway sandwich shop.
In other Wal-Mart news, the retailer said last week it plans to hire a director of global ethics, a restructured position aimed at ensuring its code of conduct is applied across its more than 6,200 stores.
