Wal-Mart Unveils 24-hour Pharmacies

BENTONVILLE, Ark. - Wal-Mart is launching 24-hour pharmacies at five stores, to test the concept.

"The need to consult a pharmacist or fill a prescription can occur day or night," said Frank Segrave, v.p., pharmacy for the nation's largest retailer. "By doubling the number of hours we're available each day, we're looking to meet, and hopefully exceed, our customers' expectations for this expanded service."

Added Ron Chomiuk, Wal-Mart's v.p. of pharmacy operations: "We're going to concentrate on these five pharmacies and work to perfect our model. These facilities will allow us to gather feedback from our customers and our associates on what we're doing right and how we can further enhance this concept."

Wal-Mart will launch the 'round-the-clock pharmacy concept at Bentonville Neighborhood Market in Arkansas and four in Texas, including Arlington Neighborhood Market, Fort Worth Neighborhood Market, Mesquite Neighborhood Market, and Plano Central Supercenter.

More than 10,000 pharmacists serve customers in more than 3,000 retail pharmacies throughout 49 states. The pharmacies are located inside Wal-Mart stores, supercenters and Neighborhood Markets, many with drive-through service.
