Wal-Mart Mulling Ethanol-based Fuel
BENTONVILLE, Ark. -- Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. is considering selling ethanol-based fuel at its more than 380 gasoline stations.
The retailer, which held an alternative fuels summit this week in Washington, is exploring plans to sell E-85, according to the Wall Street Journal. It is the blend of ethanol and gasoline that H.E. Butt Grocery Co. is about to begin offering at five sites in Texas.
Representatives of the auto industry and oil companies, government officials, and biofuel producers attended Wal-Mart's meeting.
Wal-Mart said it had yet to determine if it could sell the alternative fuel profitably.
