Wal-Mart Makes Executive Moves
Jeff Gearhart has become EVP and general counsel for Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. In this capacity, he will oversee the legal department, which is responsible for handling all legal matters affecting the company in its domestic and international markets.
Gearhart joined Wal-Mart in 2003 as VP and general counsel for the corporate division. In 2007, he became SVP and deputy general counsel for Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., in which position he oversaw the legal department's support for the corporate, real estate, information systems, logistics and compliance divisions. Before joining Wal-Mart, Gearhart spent 14 years in private practice.
He succeeds Tom Mars, who was promoted to the position of EVP and chief administrative officer, Walmart U.S. In this newly created role, Mars will handle for key human resource functions for the Walmart U.S. division, among them diversity, compensation, talent development and employment practices and policies. He will also be responsible for the company's compliance department.
