Wal-Mart Earns Top Spot on List of Diversity-friendly Businesses

BENTONVILLE, Ark. - Wal-Mart Stores Inc. has once again made the top of a list, this time as the leading corporation for multicultural business opportunities in 2004.

The "Div50" list is produced annually by DiversityBusiness.com, a multicultural B2B online portal that links large organizational buyers to women and minority-owned product and service suppliers. The 200,000 voting diversity business owners based their decisions on such factors as volume, consistency and quality of business opportunities granted to diversity business owners.

"Wal-Mart is honored to be recognized by DiversityBusiness.com," said Charlyn Jarrells Porter, chief diversity officer for Wal-Mart Stores. "We know that building a diverse supplier base is not only the right thing to do, but a business imperative. Our commitment to diversity is fundamental to our success. That means that we will continue our efforts to ensure that the suppliers we rely on to provide products and services mirror the communities and customers we serve."
