Wal-Mart Canada Pilots RFID Test
BENTONVILLE, Ark. -- Wal-Mart Canada is set to roll out an RFID pilot this autumn with 16 according to a published report. The pilot will concentrate on southern Ontario and involve the company's Mississauga DC and 20 stores.
"So far, Most of suppliers scheduled to take part are already implementing RFID implementation for the retailer in the United States, Wal-Mart spokeswoman Christi Gallagher told the RFID Journal. Wal-Mart Canada is speaking about the pilot today at the Store conference in Toronto, organized by the Retail Council of Canada.
"The ultimate goal is to keep the pilot small and controlled, leveraging what we have already seen in the United States," noted Gallagher. In the United States, Wal-Mart currently has 300 suppliers employing RFID tracking, with another 300 still implementing the technology.
Expected to run through 2007, the Canadian pilot has no scheduled follow-up phase, and the company has no timeline for implementing the technology with all of its suppliers in that country.
